Sri Kshetra Parashuram - Chiplun
This pilgrimage site is popularly known as "Pedhe Parashuram" on NH17 highway towards Mumbai, 10 km from Chiplun. After finishing his work, Lord Parasurama chose a place on Himahendragiri for sadhana and penance. After giving away all the kingdoms, Chiranjeevi settles in Bhargavaram, making a separate place for himself in Konkan. It is mentioned that Shivji Maharaj visited the old temple many times. About 300 years ago, this temple was restored by Shri Brahmendraswamy.After killing Sambhaji Maharaj in 1689, Aurangzeb brutalized Hindus and destroyed temples. In such a situation, Brahmendraswami traveled to Maharashtra and Karnataka and collected money and restored it. Dipmalas, meeting pavilions were erected. Shinde Mokashi of Nandvise made Makhar, Dharamshala, Annachhatra, Renukamata Temple, Siddhivinayak Temple, Sankat Mochan Hanuman Temple and a big lake were built. A grand temple was built in honor of Lord Parashurama.Regarding the old temple, it is said that hundreds of years ago a cow came here to graze and used to leave leaves on a square stone. Once she was removed, she disappeared. Later that cowherd himself started anointing the place with milk every day. Later, the surrounding people got together and built a temple by putting a roof on it.In the book Legends of Konkan written by the British Governor, Arthur Crawford in 1910, it is mentioned that Lord Parashurama told the local people to build his temple at this place.
