Gotra

We are always curious about who we are descended from, our family. Surnames (clan) of Chitpavans are divided into a total of 14 gotras. The 14 Rishis, who were brilliant and very intelligent, were the progenitors of these clans. Each of these gotras includes various surnames. However some surnames belong to 2 or more gotras. E.g. Joshi (Kashyapa gotra) Joshi (Shandilya gotra) Joshi (Kaushik gotra). Each surname, clan has a Kulaswami and a Kulswamini. There may have been some changes during the migration from Konkan to the country or elsewhere. The 14 gotras given here, the surnames of which are Shri. It is based on the book "Kuladaivat" by Ajit Patwardhan and if there is any change, refer to Kulavrittana for reference. Also the photos of Kuladaivat are Mr. Taken from Ajit Patwardhan's book, Miraj. The names of the gotras are the names of the sages who were the ancestors of those gotras. Each gotra has several surnames. Some surnames are found in more than one gotra.
